I'm receiving this B80B748A error, and I'm unsure of what it means and or what troubleshooting steps to try. Can someone advise what to do?

Hi @billjlongjr

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The B80B748A error is a general printer fault that can often be cleared by refreshing the printer’s hardware, checking connections, and using the HP App’s Diagnose & Fix tool.

Let’s walk through a structured set of steps together to bring your printer back to normal operation.

Step 1: Power Reset

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear.
  2. Unplug the cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the cord back into the wall and reconnect to the printer.
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if the error clears.

This refreshes the internal electronics and clears temporary faults.

Step 2: Check Cartridges and Paper Path

  • Open the cartridge access door and gently remove the cartridges.
  • Inspect for any protective tape, debris, or dried ink around the contacts.
  • Reinsert the cartridges firmly until they click into place.
  • Check the paper path for jams or fragments that could block movement.

Step 3: Use HP App Diagnose & Fix

HP App includes a built‑in tool that can automatically detect and repair common issues.

  • Install or open the HP App from the Microsoft Store or Apple App Store.
  • Select your printer, then choose Diagnose & Fix.
  • The tool will clear stuck jobs, reconnect the printer if offline, and check for driver mismatches.

You can find guidance here: Use Diagnose & Fix in the HP App.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  • Visit the official HP support page for your printer model.
  • Download and install any available firmware updates.
Firmware updates often resolve unexplained error codes and improve stability.

Step 5: Re‑add Printer in Windows

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Remove the printer from the list.
  3. Click Add a printer and re‑add it, preferably by IP address if using Wi‑Fi.
  4. Test with a simple one‑page document.

Step 6: Test Print

After completing the above, try printing a test page. If the error clears, the printer should resume normal operation.

You’ve already shown great patience by checking and asking about this error. With these steps—especially the power reset and Diagnose & Fix—you should feel the printer come back to life with its familiar hum and motion.
