Thanks

Thanks for the detailed and helpful reply. I have managed to get the Envy6132e working fully – print, scan and copy – under MacOS 10.15.7 and also recognised under HP Smart on my wi-fi lan. It took a fair amount of time to change my previous HP Envy 6000 Smart settings for those of the 6100 series and my Smart account is still listing two printers though only the 6132e is recognised as available and active. It is also enrolled in my Instant Ink plan.
However, I have found the HP online support service here in the UK very confusing and difficult to follow – though eventually I managed to speak to a human being who had considerable difficulty in explaining why HP Smart and Instant Ink seem to operate as separate systems.

Hi @LL-M,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand you’re asking whether the HP ENVY 6131e printer will work with macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina). Let’s go through a few points to check compatibility and available options.
Check official macOS support
The HP ENVY 6131e is designed to work with newer versions of macOS.
macOS 10.15.7 is not officially supported for full driver or HP Smart app functionality.
Use AirPrint for basic printing
macOS has built-in AirPrint support that does not require HP drivers.
If the printer and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network, you may still be able to print basic documents.
Add the printer manually in macOS
Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and click the + button.
Select the printer and make sure AirPrint is chosen as the driver.
Understand feature limitations on older macOS
Scanning, setup, firmware updates, and ink management may not be available on macOS 10.15.7.
These features normally require the HP Smart app, which supports newer macOS versions only.
Check network connection requirements
Ensure the printer is fully set up on Wi-Fi using a supported device first.
Once connected to Wi-Fi, the Mac can detect it via AirPrint more reliably.
Consider macOS upgrade if full features are needed
Upgrading macOS allows installation of HP Smart and full printer functionality.
This is required if scanning or advanced printer management is needed.
I hope this helps.
