We were working with Epic to use the HP scanners for the new Gallery module, but these scanners were not compatible for reading both a patient barcode and document barcode.  After Epic did some investigation this was the feedback they provided after trying multiple drivers.

The scanner is sending the variable "INT8" which is not supported by TWAIN.  According to chapter 9 of the attached TWAIN 2.5 specification pdf, the variable "INT8 "is never used as a TWAIN data type in the TW_INFO data structure. This means that the scanner is sending data in the incorrect format.

Though the HP driver claims to be compliant with TWAIN 2.4, the issue would remain the same (regardless of the driver being out of date).

We recommend that you pass this along to HP and see if they have drivers that solve this variable issue or if they have new scanners that do so as well.
