New printer should not have print quality issues.
Assuming for a minute that the printer is "OK",
Try printing the content that includes the bar code as an image.
Why?
Image printing does not require translation to printer language - translation is where a lot of "bar code" printing gets into trouble.
If the printer is not actually "brand new",
Consider that it might benefit from maintenance to be sure it is printing as best it can.
