Sorry if someone missunderstaning me,but I'm in the way of bying an replacment printer.

Since I myself had for the past 35 years 3 printers( in wich shows how good this printers are).

As in the header I'm interesting of an OfficeJet Pro 7740,but since I know that this is an older printer( and nowdays the technology is in a rapid development), but since it's my first AIO- printer, and that this printers have an reputition of having an short lifespan. Compared to printers only( singel use type).

But since what I've read about this printer ( and also what HP printers are known for, compared to other compeditors such as Canon,Epson). It's not famous for printing high yeald/photo quality images.

Compared to photoprinters from Canon or Epson.

But since I myself is primary interested of an realable( in wich I can print on heavy weight paper), to an quite affordable cost.

Since I myself don't print so much, and the downsize with lazers are that they both need an long startup process, needs a special paper,an expensive drum to replace, but as well that the fine mesh powder is all over the place, but also that the print itself have an glossy finnish( in wich is impossibel to write on with an simpel ball pen), but also that the reflections from the print is bothering me.

Because however I myself had once an Canon Pixma printer ( first and only).

Not only that I found this printer hard to set up( because everything in Japanese maners are upside down/ backwards and forwards thinking. And that if you do anything wrong, the printer just backfires like and mad horse on the track) Sadly it happend me twice. So if there wasn't any physical failure,it could be that the install process went wrong.

But mosly it was broken, since it didn't took any pigment black( for the photo).

And when I started up an complaiment( waranty) I just gave up in all frustration, and went back to an HP- printer.

But in matter of fact it was an quite expensive lesson.

But even if it was a bit off- topic.

What my concerns are;

1.Since I have an older Win 7 PC( 32- bit). Are there any compatibel drivers?

2. Since I also have an refurbished ( upgraded) Win 10 PC( 64- bit).

Is it a better choise to use it on a Win 10 PC insted?

But I also have an Tablet( Android 13)- an Samsung Galaxy Tab S9FE.

3.Since I've also read that this printer uses a technology in wich blocks 3:rd party cartiges.

But since I myself never use anything other than what the printer manufacture has recomended. I never experienced any issues with my print.

Because however I myself have experienced this once before, but this was before when refilled cartiges was launched ( from different retailers). Since in this times it came with an refill bottle,in wich you used the already existing cartige.

But since there is an reason why you never should use anyting other than what is perscripted from the manufacture.

Since ink is more than ink. So its the same why it's inapropriate to use( or mix) diffrent oils with eachother.

Since oil have different specifications/ viscosity.

But what my point is that if there will be any problems ( mostly that the printer will block as well orininal cartiges).

Since I myself know that many manufactures have a trick to block( stop production of certain cartiges) after aprox 10 years( after the lates production).

4. Since this is an inkjet printer.

As I myself had experienced that after a couple of years( in matter of facts 10 yeras or so) the ISS( Ink service Station) clogged.

Since as I suppose this printers are not designed ( ment too be) serviced/ maintained.

So if the ISS had clogged,it's meant to be sent to the grave yard.

But since an printer is still in production( or close to it's EOL), is there any possibility to order them( have it as an backup)?

Welcome to the HP Community --

At this writing, the printer is still for sale in the US market:

HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

A possible "new model" replacement might be the OfficeJet Pro 9720e or the OfficeJet Pro 9730e.

That said...

Interestingly, at this writing, I've not found the new OfficeJet Pro 97xxe models currently available in our US market -- I did find both printers listed for sale in the UK and possibly elsewhere on your side of the pond (Ocean).

What do to???

You have to decide for yourself, of course.

Depending on your budget, this is either a major investment or simply an attempt to get value for the extra money a higher end printer costs in today's market.

Comments and Additional Information

---------------------------------------------------------------

True - the printer, like most (all?) high-end HP OfficeJet Pro models, is permanently protected by Dynamic Security -- only HP chipped cartridges work in the printer.  In the case of an "e" printer offered with HP+ AND with HP+ enabled, only new genuine HP cartridges can be used - no refills.

True - the 7740 printer is likely to be off-market at some point -- it's been a staple for longer than some OfficeJet Pro models that are only offered for sale by HP for a limited time (typically one year or a bit longer).  High-end models tend to be available for a bit longer, I think.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Printers in the Wide Format category do offer printing on larger paper sizes.

With the installation of the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software, printing on A3 paper is supported.

Wide Format printers do not generally offer printing on heavier weight paper than other high-end OfficeJet Pro models.

Check the Specifications for Paper Handling details.

---------------------------------------------------------------

True - More complicated models might have a more limited life span than a simple black and white laser printer that prints on office paper and lacks the hardware specific to multiple task types.

---------------------------------------------------------------

My Opinion - The the 7740 is a small business / home office printer.  It is not designed to be a high-end photo printer.  It should print reasonable to very good photos and images -- it should not be expected to print professional grade photos.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The 7740 printer includes some of the nicer elements of the other high end OfficeJet Pro 91xx series.  For example, the 7740 supports automatic 2-sided scans, a full service touchscreen control panel, a decent EWS management resource, extended copy controls, and Digital sending features:  Scan to PC; Scan to Memory Device; Scan to email.

Thanks for an great and detailed reply.

It was more than I could expect, but since I myself appriciate this type of answers.

However as I've already mentioned with my nearly 30 yeras of experiences with HP; In wich Hp are more known for its realable document printers.

Because however since there are different type of printers; such as photoprinters and some hybrids in between.

Not to mention any specific brand or so.

However since I myself have seen the development of your printers. Since however I had a couple of OfficeJet and Deskjet printers.

But that was when printers had 2 cartiges, and LPT- Connection.

Since all of them where singel fuction devices ( printing only), neither of them had complicated ( or extra features such as scan/ copy,e- mail, fax etc). Or what nowdays is called AIO- Printers.

Since wide format printers are a bit expenciver than regular A4/ letter printers. In particulary also when they are AIO- printers. But ever since they become " each mans everyday life", they also get cheaper.

But with more features included it also came with issues( complicated maintaince).

However compard to my previous printers; they where more of print & go without any unnessesarly hassel.

I also couldn't remember that I had updated my printer for many years.

But however as my concerns are with inkjet printers( but also that I myself have experienced it atleast twice. That the ISS- Service station had clogged).

But however on old type printers it wasn't as complicated as on modern once. Since the design of both the cartige itself, but also that the printerhead itself was integrated on the cartige. But also run on solution based ink( perhaps oil based. Because it was impossibel to clean with water and simpel dishwasher fluid.

But it was a bit easier with thinner or acetone/ petrol.

However since this is an older printer model ( but as I myself had experienced that older models are more realable/ robust. Compared to newer models), but what is my biggest concern is the reality of getting spare parts.

In particulary ISS- Stations ( Ink Service Station).

However printerheads are easy to get, but I've never seen any retailer( or in some spare parts list/ manual).

As long it's possibel for me to get this devices, since I myself live in Sweden.

So this printers are not maybe designed to be maintained/ serviced. But I maybe wrong.

However can I post an private message?

However I also have an older OfficeJet pro 8100,in wich my ISS- Station broke down.

If it's any possibility to fix this printer. If not, I also looking for possibel alternatives/ replacments

You are welcome.

I only know the HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 through the information available through the public support channels.  That is little enough compared to the deeper knowledge that would come from having used the printer.  I cannot answer questions about the printer's usefulness or reliability.
