HP Officejet 4500 G510N
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi all. I have been trying to install a HP 4500 All In One G510n printer on my father in laws PC. All his updates are done. We tried to install from the original CD but this kept creating fatal errors and creating an Error Log. I then tried to install direct from the HP website. I downloaded the drivers and started the install. When the installation asks to connect the printer, (I chose the USB option), it says Device Found and continues to install software. But, every time the install gets to 4/7, it stops. Then after approximately 5 mins, it causes my father in laws PC to crash with the Blue Screen and starts dumping physical memory. I had to recover his PC three times because every new attempt to install the printer gives the same error, Blue Screen. This is getting very frustrating. Would very much appreciate some help as the HP help file that we receive does not take into account the actual point the PC crashes.

Welcome to HP forums.

In this case, I would request you to try installing the windows built-in drivers and check if it works.

Install the built-in print driver for a USB connection with Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

  1. Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results.

  2. Click Add a printer.

    Clicking Add a printer

  3. Click Add a local printer.

    Selecting Add a local printer

  4. Select Use an existing port (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB), and then click Next.

  5. Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

  6. Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

  7. Click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

  8. Disconnect the printer USB cable from the computer, and then reconnect the cable.

Follow this link for more ways to get it connected.

Keep me posted. 🙂

Hi Barachiel, firstly, many thanks for your reply. I used to work for HP as a Service Delivery Manager so I have some PC/Engineering background. I did try this before I posted the problem. The one thing that I cannot seem to grasp is why the PC crashes at the same point, everytime. It is always at the point when the HP Software asks for the printer to be Connected and then select the USB option. It has never gone beyond the 4/7 install point and then the Blue Screen happens. HP does create an error log but it never relates to the software crashing the PC. I think I have tried every possible install option but it doesn't stop the PC Blue Screen when the connection stage happens.

Thanks for the response.

Did you try to install this printer with another computer?

In this case, I could suggest you to create another user account with the computer and try installing the printer.

Let me know. 🙂

Hi Barachiel, this printer has never been connected to this PC. It was previously connected to a Laptop with a Wireless connection, running Windows 10. Will the creation of an additional User account stop the Blue Screen at Install?
