so I bought an HP OfficeJet pro 9010E I also own the previous model without the E, the secondhand printer the 9010E came with the original receipt from when it was bought in 2023, I have been trying to set it up but I get an error code UA_400_EB000U042

i'm guessing the printer is still showing up as belonging to the previous owner however I bought the printer from an op shop and her receipt was within the printer but I don't know how to show I am the new owner and unfortunately I cannot register this now, which means I can't initiate instant ink and without being able to do that the printer is basically not working for me at all,

Hi @JoWatson

The error code UA_400_EB000U042 typically means the printer is still linked to the previous owner's HP account, preventing you from completing setup or activating Instant Ink.

To resolve this, the printer must be removed from their account before you can claim ownership.

Here’s how you can move forward and get your HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e working again:

Step 1: Understand the Ownership Lock

HP+ printers like the 9010e are tied to the original owner's HP account. This is part of the HP account-based activation system, which includes Instant Ink and cloud-based features. If the printer is still registered to someone else, you’ll see errors like the one you’re encountering.

Step 2: Remove the Printer from the Previous Owner’s Account

Since you bought the printer secondhand, you’ll need to contact the previous owner and ask them to:

  1. Sign in to their HP account at https://www.hp.com/go/myprinters
  2. Locate the HP OfficeJet Pro 9010e in their list of devices.
  3. Select Remove Printer from their account.

If you are unable to contact the previous owner, then we recommend taking the conversation to our phone support team. They'll work with you one-on-one to get the issue sorted, possibly with some remote assistance magic.

I'm sending you a private message to guide you on the next steps.
