I cannot use the EWS as I do get the error in the browser ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH.
Browser: Edge, Chrome, Firefox - all same results
Printer: Officejet PRO 8600
I'm not able to re-install/re-configure the scanning via email which worked fine until one month ago.
Firmware update of the printer is not available. Probably the printer is already using the latest firmware version.
Thanks in advance for possible solutions

Hi @RalfK1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error typically indicates a problem with the SSL/TLS configuration between your browser and the server (in this case, your HP printer's Embedded Web Server). Here are steps you can take to address this issue and potentially regain access to the EWS:
Steps to Resolve ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH Error
Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
- Sometimes, cached data or cookies can cause SSL/TLS errors. Clearing browser cache and cookies can help resolve this:
- In your browser settings, find the option to clear browsing data.
- Select "Cached images and files" and "Cookies and other site data".
- Clear data for at least the past week or month, then restart your browser.
Try a Different Browser
- If you're experiencing the issue across multiple browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox), try accessing the EWS from a different computer or device. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your current setup.
Adjust Browser Security Settings
- Ensure that your browser's security settings are not set too high, as this can sometimes cause SSL/TLS handshake issues. Try lowering the security settings temporarily to see if it resolves the error.
Update Browser
- Ensure that your browser is up to date with the latest version. Outdated browsers may have compatibility issues with newer SSL/TLS protocols.
Check Printer's SSL/TLS Configuration
- Access the printer's control panel or settings menu and navigate to the network or security settings related to SSL/TLS.
- Ensure that SSL/TLS settings are configured correctly. You may need to enable or disable specific protocols or adjust cipher settings to match browser requirements.
Use HTTP Instead of HTTPS (if applicable)
- Try accessing the printer's EWS using HTTP instead of HTTPS. Note that this is less secure, so revert to HTTPS after troubleshooting.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Dear Rachel,
first, thank you for your reply to my question regarding the ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error.
Unfortunately, none of the proposed steps helped:
I tried different browsers (Firefox, Chrome and Edge). In all browsers I cleared the cache. In all browsers I checked the browser settings, also with the "allowance" to handle unsafe websites. I always got the ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error message again.
Finally, now I cant´t reach the EWS site of the printer anymore, although I´m using the correct IP address of the EWS.
In my opinion the printer has "lost" the SSL/TLS certificate or the certificate has exprired. I don´t know. Therefore I tried to install a firmware update, which I downloaded from the printer related website. But the update program responds "not applicable". Maybe the printer is already using the latest firmware version.
My questions are now:
1) How can I install a new certificate? Unfortunately the EWS doesn´t allow me to go to the option "certificates" (which I know from other HP printers EWS) anymore. Either the EWS is responding "the website is not safe" when trying to switch to the HTTPS site of the EWS or the the EWS is asking for "signing in" but there is no window coming up where I can sign in with the admin entry.
2) Do HP printer certificates expire after some years. Then it should be possible to install an new one, e.g. by a firmware update or similar.
I would be glad to get more ideas to solve the ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error. All other printer functions are working: printing, scanning etc. using the wi-fi connected computer is possible. But, to re-install the "Scan to email" function I need to solve the problem with the certificates.
Thank you in advance.
