I recently set up my HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One and it was working beautifully. It then went offline and I cannot get it back on-line.
I have done the set up protocol many times, and I can only ever get to the "Busy, please wait" message on the screen (after removing the printer and trying to add it back again, as recommended).
Doing anything from any app is useless, as the printer is not online. It is DEFINITELY something wrong with the actual printer. Anyone else run into this?

@NewportSue, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue where your HP Smart Tank 7602 All-in-One printer is stuck on a "Busy, please wait" message and won’t come back online, even after multiple setup attempts. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help troubleshoot and potentially resolve this:
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
This can help clear any temporary firmware glitches.
Check for Hardware Errors
- Look at the printer’s display for any error icons or blinking lights.
- If the printer is stuck on “Busy, please wait” for more than a few minutes after startup, it may indicate a firmware or internal hardware issue.
Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Cancel and Wi-Fi buttons.
- While holding, turn the printer back on.
- Continue holding for about 10–15 seconds until the printer shows signs of resetting.
Note: This may reset network settings and preferences.
Update Firmware (if accessible)
If the printer becomes responsive:
- Go to HP Smart App or HP Support website.
- Check for and install any firmware updates.
Try USB Connection
If Wi-Fi setup fails:
- Connect the printer directly to your PC using a USB cable.
- See if it becomes responsive or shows up in Devices and Printers.
Check for Background Print Jobs
- On your PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer > See what’s printing.
- Cancel all pending jobs.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
