I have a 5200 office jet that I purchased as a backup brand new 4 years ago. I just opened it to set it up as my original finally died and the setup cartridges are missing. How do I bypass that setup?

Unfortunately, HP OfficeJet printers, including the 5200 series, require setup cartridges during the initial configuration process. These special cartridges are programmed to prepare the printer for its first use, and bypassing this step is typically not possible through normal user methods.

 

However, here are some steps you can try:

 

Try Regular Cartridges

  • Sometimes, standard cartridges (non-setup) might work if the printer is not strictly requiring setup cartridges after a firmware update. You can try inserting regular HP ink cartridges and see if it allows you to proceed.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes resetting helps bypass certain error messages, but this is a long shot.

 

If these steps do not work, obtaining replacement setup cartridges from HP may be the only solution to proceed with the setup.

To order replacement setup cartridges for your HP OfficeJet printer, follow these steps.

 

Visit the HP Store:

  • Go to the HP Store or your local retailer’s website.

Find Your Printer Model:

  • Use the search bar to enter your specific HP OfficeJet printer model (e.g., HP OfficeJet Pro 5200).

Select the Right Cartridges:

  • Look for "ink cartridges" or "setup cartridges" in the product listings. Ensure that you select the cartridges compatible with your specific printer model.

Place an Order:

  • Add the cartridges to your cart and follow the prompts to complete the purchase.

Check for Subscription Options:

  • If you frequently need ink, consider HP’s Instant Ink program, which automatically delivers cartridges based on your usage.

 

Make sure to check the compatibility of the cartridges with your printer before ordering.
