I have a Samsung C1860FW color laser/scanner.  I am able to install the universal print driver with no problems, and the printer and scanner work fine.  The scanner is what I am having issues with however.   When I use the Samsung Easy Document Creator software everything works fine.  I would like to try using NAPS2 for a scanning software though, and NAPS2 won't detect the scanner.  It also isn't listed under Device Manager in WIn10.  I'm thinking that either the TWAIN or WIA driver isn't installed.  The printer is connected via the network, not directly to the computer.  Is there anything I can do to fix this so the NAPS2 can see it?  Thanks.

Hi @atrdriver1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for the detailed info, you’re right in suspecting that NAPS2 requires a TWAIN or WIA-compatible driver, which the Samsung Easy Document Creator uses internally but may not expose system-wide, especially over a network connection.

Here’s how you can get NAPS2 to detect your Samsung Xpress C1860FW scanner:

Steps to Enable NAPS2 Scanning with Samsung C1860FW

1. Install the Samsung TWAIN/WIA Scanner Driver

Samsung printers are now supported by HP. You can download the correct scanner driver here: 👉 Samsung Xpress SL-C1860FW Color Laser Multifunction Printer Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Supp...

Look for:

  • TWAIN Scanner Driver
  • WIA Driver (if available)

⚠️ If only the Easy Document Creator is listed, you may need to extract the TWAIN driver from the full software package.

2. Ensure the Scanner is Shared Over the Network

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your Samsung printer > Scanner Properties
  • Under the Sharing tab, ensure it's shared and accessible.

3. Use NAPS2 with WIA or TWAIN

  • Open NAPS2 > Settings > Scanning
  • Click New Profile > Choose Device
  • If your scanner doesn’t appear, try switching between WIA and TWAIN modes.

4. Optional: Try USB Connection Temporarily

Some Samsung models only expose TWAIN/WIA interfaces over USB, not network. If possible:

  • Connect the printer via USB.
  • Check if NAPS2 detects it.
  • If it works, the issue is likely network driver limitations.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
