HP C7280 All-in-One printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I attempted to reinstall the printer software driver for my C7280 on my Dell Inspiron 15 running Windows 10 64-bit.  I  downloaded the file PS_AIO_02_Net_Full_Win_WW_140_408-5.exe.   I uninstalled the existing HP printer components using Control Panel / Uninstall programs.  I then ran the installer.  I made it through the first 2-3 screens.  When I got to the Review Installation Options screen and checked "I have reviewed and accept the installation agreement and settings", I clicked Next to continue and the installer abruptly ended.  The screen just disappeared.  I tried multiple times, but the installer dies at the same screen.  I tried running the various L1 through L4_Uninstaller.bat files and cleared out the temp directory of all files but the problem continues.

Can anyone provide a recommendation on how I can run the installer so that it successfully completes?  I've reinstalled the software many times in years past so I don't know why it's not working now.  Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I would like to thank those of you who offered suggestions to resolve the issue I was having.  Unfortunately, none of them were effective.  I finally resolved the issue by re-installing the Windows 10 operating system on my laptop.  After re-installing the operating system, the HP C7280 printer software driver installer completed successfully and my  printer is once again operational.

@LakeTravisTexan,

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the case regarding issues with installing the printer. It will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did you do a complete root-level clean uninstall and reinstall and check if it works?
  • Is it a USB or network connection?

For now, try these steps:

Press “Windows key” + “r” to get the “Run” window.

  • Type "services.msc" to get Services – Go to “Print spooler” – Right-click and “Stop” the service.
  • Now again open "Run" - Type “spool” and ok - Go to PRINTERS folder - delete everything in that folder.
  • Go to services again - Start the print spooler.
  • Now check for issue resolution.

If the issue persists, also try clean installing the printer drivers. Here are the steps:

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer, if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Photosmart printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Then create a new user account as an administrator  from this link:http://hp.care/2rZfJBC

Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.

Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2CEeIUC and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix the issue.

If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH

For further assistance, you try the steps from this guided troubleshooter link: http://hp.care/2kxnTzb for wireless issues when the printer does not work on the wireless network.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.

Hello David,

Thanks for your detailed reply.  As I mentioned in my post, I tried to run ...\util\ccc\Uninstall_L1.bat through Uninstall_L4.bat but they didn't always finish gracefully and it didn't seem to help.  If the root-level clean uninstall is something different, please provide a documentation link and I'll try it.

I am using a network connection to the printer.
