Obviously VERY Pissed at HP regarding the NON HP Ink Supply LOCKOUT!

aka. "You can Buy our HP Car but you can ONLY put Our EXPENSIVE HP Gas In It."

None HP Cartridges used to work in this printer (OfficeJet Pro 9015e)...Got caught off guard and did not turn off Firmware Auto Updates...And HP Burned Me like All The Rest Of Us Out Here.   Rolled me the update (MANHTNPP1N005.2442C.00) which I CANNOT Rollback for some reason.

Older Previous Versions of Firmware start the rollback process but then it just sits in a limbo state, never finishes, and I must power reboot printer and kill Firmware .exe from running in taskmanager.  I have tried 3 THREE DIFFERENT Older Firmwares...Same Results... Tried Printer Attached Over IP Network Cable and Direct USB Printer Cable...Same Results.   Tried Moving .FUL / .FUL2 Firware Files to a USB Stick and trying that way but Printer ONLY sees USB Stick as a Scan Destination for SCANs.

I see procedures online on how to do this firmware rollback but none for my 9015e. These procedures all refer to Firmware Files that have a .FUL file extension.  All MINE are .FUL2 file extensions.  Not sure if that is the problem.  I ALSO Tried renaming these files as .FUL...same results.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...PLEASE..Someone...ANYONE...tell me how to rollback this HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e Printer Firmware SUCCESSFULLY, Provide me detailed instructions,,,someone that has done it on this MODEL....where the Firmware you used is....PLEASE...Just Help Me Out Of This HP INK RACKET.

I HAVE HEARD...that HP does have a "NEW" Firmware Update FOR SOME HP PRINTERS that TURNS OFF The INK Lockdown....Due To Infuriated Customers like me....   I WANT THIS FOR MY 9015e!  Cant find it on HP Support...NOPE.  MAYBE....maybe....HP will stop counting their ink money and help me.

i.e...."It's MY Bought and PAID FOR Car...yes the car is old and no longer (HP) supported or needs emissions inspection tests (LOL)...and I want to run leaded gasoline in it...or Grain Alcohol...or whatever I want HP!"

LOSING IT. THX.

Hi @UNLEASHME

Welcome to the HP Support Community! Thanks for posting your query!

Unfortunately, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e firmware (MANHTNPP1N005.2442C.00) cannot be rolled back using standard methods. HP has locked down rollback on many “e-series” printers, and the .FUL2 firmware files you’re seeing are part of that restriction. There is no official rollback path for the 9015e, and HP has not released a “disable dynamic security” firmware for this model.

I see that you have an issue using non-HP ink cartridges on your printer.

Please refer to the below links for more information related to your issue.

If you are using generic or non-HP ink cartridges and the above links do not help. You will have to contact the generic ink cartridge manufacturer to assist you further with it, or you will have to use genuine HP ink cartridges to resume printing.

Everything you said and shared is "Blah Blah Blah HP BS".

What would REALLY help from you is sharing the OLD ORIGINAL .FUL Firmware with me that it ORIGINALLY CAME WITH.  I want the HP Printer That I Purchased...NOT THIS HP LOCKED DOWN HOSTAGE Printer.

If your offered solution is just to spew HP's NONSENSE AND DOCUMENTATION AT US...then Don't Even Speak Up.

YOU Then Only Aggravate The Situation More.

WILL NEVER BUY HP AGAIN!!

LISTEN UP PEOPLE.

Hi @UNLEASHME

I hear the frustration in your words, and I’m truly sorry this experience has left you feeling locked out of the printer you purchased. You’ve already put in effort trying multiple rollback methods, and I appreciate the persistence.

For the OfficeJet Pro 9015e, the firmware you mentioned (MANHTNPP1N005.2442C.00) is designed in such a way that rollback is not possible. The .FUL2 files you’ve seen are part of that design, and renaming or attempting older packages will not bypass the restriction. This is intentional in the way the e‑series printers handle firmware updates and cartridge authentication.

I understand that what you really want is the original firmware that allowed wider cartridge use. Unfortunately, HP does not provide older firmware packages for download once a new version has been released, and there is no supported path to revert the 9015e back to its earlier state. The only way forward with this model is to use genuine HP cartridges, as the firmware enforces dynamic security.

I know this is not the answer you were hoping for, but it’s important to be clear: the printer is designed this way, and rollback is not supported. If you continue to prefer alternatives, the only option would be to consider a different printer model that does not include dynamic security.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience—it’s clear how strongly you feel about this change, and your feedback is valuable.

I am in the same boat, working printer was bricked in 2025 by a firmware update for a Costco purchased OfficeJet Pro 8715 (8710).

HP continues to engage in anti-consumer practices, this can be verified by searching for details of their many class action lawsuits over the past 25 years (DVD+R burners as an example of how far back this goes).

I recommend E-Wasting any HP printers/ electronics and either utilize CVS/Walmart for photos, a nearby office/hotel that offers printing services for immediate needs and if you still want printouts at home seek any number of competing printer companies (avoid Canon, they're just as bad if not worse) that let you own what you paid for.

You will find the prices of print services are so low now that owning a printer plus ink is horribly cost prohibitive.

Save yourself and the environment and let your wallet do the talking by avoiding HP products at all costs.

I don't believe what HP is offering up "as a solution" is the absolute final truth.... I am going to Beat This Thing...Some Way...Some How...Maybe By Taking Old Firmware and Making It Seem Like The Latest Upgrade... I Don't Know.... BUT I AM GOING TO BEAT THIS THING.... EVEN IF "BEAT THIS THING" Means Taking a Sledge Hammer To The HP PRINTER... REPEATEDLY...and then Mailing The Pieces Back To HP Headquarters With An F.U. Thank You Note.

NOTHING IS UNBEATABLE!
