HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw Color Multifunction Printer

I'm trying to get my CM1415fnw to work with my MacBook.

I've connected the printer to wifi and it has an IP address.

I'm running macOS 14.6.1 and the system doesn't seem to be able to print to the printer.

I've installed `HP Easy Start.app`, `HP Easy Admin.app` and `hp-easy-scan-2_0_0_2.pkg` but none of those seem to be able to get the printer working.

The firmware date code  on the printer is 20120216. I've tried getting a newer version of the software but `CM1410_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20140616` doesn't work on machine. I tried running `CM1410_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20140616` through wine (I don't have a windows machine)  but that doesn't work either.

I've reset the printing system and that doesn't seem to help.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a windows 11 machine running with a bridged network adapter under UTM. I ran HP Smart to see if I could configure the printer. I get similar results as under macOS: I see the printer but when I try to add it I am unsuccessful.

I've set RFU on the printer to on. This has had no effect.

I suspect the problem has to do with the printer's connection to the wifi. When I log into the Xfinity app, I can see that the printer was given the address 10.0.0.76 but the printer believes its address should be 169.254.14.201. I hardcoded the ip on the device but still wasn't able to ping it from my machine. I split the bands so that my machine is on the 2.4 band with the printer and still cannot ping it.

Hi Garp! Thank you for detailed response. Here's what I'm seeing from my end.

# Verify Printer's IP Address:
If I select the wireless icon, I can see the following information about my printer. In the router I've split the 2.5GHz and the 5GHz to make sure my printer and laptop are on the same frequency.

IP: 10.0.0.76
SSID: (redacted)
Channel: 6
Hardware Address: (redacted)

# Set a Fixed IP Address

If I select `Setup Menu > Network Setup > TCPIP Config`, the system gives me a choice between `Automatic` and `Manual`. If I select `Automatic` and then select Wireless from the main menu, I can see that the ip address of the printer is `169.254.14.201`. This doesn't look like any of the addresses on my network. I've selected `Manual` from the previous menu and set the values as follows:

```
IP Address: 010.000.000.076
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.000
Default Gateway: 010.000.000.001
```
When I do this and ping `10.0.0.76` , I get `Request timeout for icmp_seq 0`

# Update Printer Settings on Computers

In the Options & Supplies dialog, I see the following information, there appears to be no IP address mentioned:

```
Name: HP LaserJet CM1415fnw (3D827A)
Location: (empty)
Model: HP LaserJet CM1415fnw-AirPrint
Device Name: HP_LaserJet_CM1415fnw__3D827A_
Driver Version: 3.0
```
# Restart Network Devices:
I've done this several times. The IP is still `10.0.0.76`

# Ping the Printer
The printer is still not ping-able.

# Update Printer Drivers and Firmware:
If I select `Setup > Service > Firmware Datecode` the system displays `20120216`.

I wanted to update the firmware but this is challenging. I'm running mac and the firmware isn't available for mac and windows xp cannot connect to the HP support server (it complains about the HTTPS version). Here's what I did:

1. Install XP on UTM
2. Start a web server on mac (python3 -m http.server 8080)
3. Download and install files from WinXP (dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe, LJProCM1415_full_solution_22049.exe, CM1410_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20140616.exe)

BEfore I can do anything with `CM1410_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20140616.exe`, it appears that I need to configure a printer. Before I do that, I need to install `LJProCM1415_full_solution_22049.exe` which fails at installing dot net. I installed not net via `dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe` and when I try installing `LJProCM1415_full_solution_22049.exe` I still get an error that `hpbcsilnstaller.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close`. I get that every time.

I'm going to try MAc OS X 10.5. That also has a firmware option available.

# Disable IPv6:
I don't see an option for IPv6

# Check Firewall and Security Software
There is no firewall blocking the printer.

# Print Wireless Network Test Page
This test reports that nothing is wrong.

# Advanced Wireless Settings
The printer is less than a foot from the wireless router.
The SSID matches.

I'm running OSX 10.5 in UTM. I tried running `CM1410_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20140616.dmg` but I get the error `You cannot use this version of the application HP Firmware Updater with this version of Mac OS X.

HP Recommended
I installed Windows 7 and `LJProCM1415_full_solution_22049.exe`.  Then I used a network cable to connect the printer to the router. Then I ran `CM1410_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20140616.exe` and updated the firmware. Firmware Date code is now `20140616`. Problem persists.

@P4trick, I really appreciate the detailed response! 😊

Let's refine the approach and tackle this systematically to get your HP LaserJet Pro working with your MacBook.

Here are some additional steps to try, referencing official HP guidelines:

Ensure the Printer is Properly Connected to the Network

Even though your printer shows an IP address (10.0.0.76), the fact that it also assigns itself 169.254.x.x indicates it's not fully communicating with the router.

If the printer's IP address starts with 169.254.x.x, it indicates a self-assigned address due to network issues.

Double-check the wireless settings: On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Menu > Wireless Setup Wizard and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

Assign a static IP from the router: Instead of setting it manually on the printer, log into your Xfinity router admin panel and assign the IP 10.0.0.76 (or similar in the range) to the printer’s MAC address under DHCP reservations.

Disable Wi-Fi Direct: If enabled, it may interfere with network printing. Go to Network Setup > Wi-Fi Direct and turn it off.

Verify Connection from MacBook

Open System Settings > Network and check if your MacBook is on the same subnet (10.0.0.x).

Run this command in Terminal: ping 10.0.0.76

If it still times out, try traceroute: traceroute 10.0.0.76

This helps check if the packets are reaching the printer.

Remove and Reinstall Printer on macOS

Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners

Right-click (or Ctrl + click) anywhere in the list and select Reset Printing System…

Reboot the Mac and printer, then re-add the printer.

Add via IP address:

Click Add Printer (+)

Select IP and enter 10.0.0.76

Use protocol HP JetDirect - Socket

Ensure the driver is HP LaserJet CM1415fnw PCL (not AirPrint).

Check for Security Conflicts

Temporarily disable macOS firewall:

Go to System Settings > Network > Firewall and turn it off.

If using Xfinity Advanced Security, ensure port 9100 (used by JetDirect) is open.

Test with a USB Cable

If none of the above works, try temporarily connecting the printer via USB to see if macOS detects it.

If the issue persists after following these steps, try resetting your printer to factory defaults and setting it up again from scratch to eliminate any misconfigurations and ensure a fresh network connection. 😊
