@RJFD,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Here's how to address that question about running an HP LaserJet 4000 with a PC running Windows 11 Pro:

The Good News: It's Possible!

The HP LaserJet 4000 is a robust and reliable printer that can still work with modern systems like Windows 11 Pro, though it requires some extra setup since this printer is older and doesn't have official Windows 11 drivers.

Steps to Make It Work:

  1. Use a Universal Print Driver (UPD):
HP provides Universal Print Drivers that are compatible with a wide range of older printers, including the LaserJet 4000.

    • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
    • Search for "HP Universal Print Driver for Windows."
    • Download and install the latest PCL6 or PostScript version of the UPD.
  2. Connection Type:

    • Parallel Port (LPT): If the printer uses an old parallel port, you’ll need an adapter (e.g., parallel-to-USB).
    • Network Connection: If the LaserJet 4000 is network-enabled, connect it via Ethernet and configure it with its IP address.
  3. Manually Add the Printer:

    • Open SettingsDevicesPrinters & ScannersAdd Printer.
    • Select The printer that I want isn’t listed.
    • Choose to add the printer via its IP address or manually install the driver.
  4. Test Printing:
After installing the driver, print a test page to ensure everything is working.

Considerations:

  • Compatibility Mode: If the UPD doesn't work perfectly, try running the driver installation in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows.
  • Features: Some advanced features may not be supported, but basic printing should work fine.

The LaserJet 4000 is a workhorse, and with a bit of effort, it should still be functional on Windows 11 Pro!

Kind Regards,
