Why there is no German Language available?
AND
When I want to reduce the format from DIN A3 to DIN A4 when copying, the copy comes out completely offset on the paper!
Surely the reduced copy should be perfectly adapted to the new format?!
how, why and where do you have to set this?

Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you’re not seeing German as an option in the printer’s language settings, it might be due to one of the following reasons:
Possible Causes and Solutions:
Firmware or Region Settings: The printer’s region settings might be restricting the available language options. Depending on the region where your printer was purchased or the firmware version, German may not be included in the default language list.
How to Check/Change the Language:
Via Printer Control Panel:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings or Setup (depending on the model).
- Look for a section called Language or Display Language.
- If German isn’t listed, try checking if there’s an option to change the region or localization settings to match the language preferences.
Update the Printer Firmware:
- Go to HP’s official support website and search for your HP LaserJet MFP M438n printer.
Offset Issue When Reducing from DIN A3 to DIN A4 (Copying)
If you’re experiencing an offset when reducing from DIN A3 (A3 size) to DIN A4 (A4 size) during copying, this typically occurs due to a mismatch in settings, either on the copier or with the alignment of the source and output settings. Here’s how to fix that:
Steps to Adjust the Copy Settings:
Check Paper Size Settings:
- Ensure that the output tray is loaded with A4 paper and not something else. Sometimes, printers will automatically detect the paper size in the output tray, so it’s crucial to ensure that A4 paper is correctly loaded in the tray.
Change the Copy Size/Scaling:
- Select the right scaling option:
- On the printer’s control panel, when you are selecting copy settings, make sure you are choosing the option to Reduce or Fit to Page.
- If available, choose A3 to A4 scaling or A4 Fit to Page. This option ensures that the content from the A3 page is resized correctly to fit onto an A4 page, maintaining the proper margins and alignment.
- Avoid using any auto-detect functions for paper size; sometimes, these can cause the printer to misalign the copy.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
