Hp cp1215
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've been trying to get a cp1215 laserjet printer to work on my computer. It seems that my computer isn't detecting the printer when I plug in the USB line. I've tried installing the drivers but when I run the setup it tells me to plug the printer in even when it already is.

Hello @Fabe_ca
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Disconnect printer/scanner from computer- Disable WLAN, WiFi and/or remove the USB or LAN cable.- Do not switch off the printer >> unplug the power cord from the socket!
  2. Uninstall HP printer software, and then remove the printer from your Devices list.
  3. Restart the PC
  4. Close all programs
  5. download only this complete package: HP Software – Offline Use Only
    File name: hp_CLJCP1215_Full_Solution.exe (493 MB)
Now the printer can be switched on again. But do not connect to the computer.
  6. Close all programs
  7. Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the EXE,
Attention: Do not connect the printer to the computer (via USB) until the software prompts you to do so!
  8. The installation was completed successfully, now you must ...
  9. Restart the System again
  10. Now the installation is complete.

Document error messages accurately, even better is to take a screenshot of it and upload here.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Well looks like all the notifications for this post was going to my spam folder so I didn't know I got a replay. Any ways I tried you solution but when the software tells me to plug in the USB cable nothing happens. it seems my computer still isn't acknowledging/recognizing that the printer is connected / No error messages or anything, I think the printer it's self might be damaged or something. Do I need a very specific type of cable? the one I'm using is from my old HP officejet j4680 printer.
