HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer

I have an HP Envy 4500 printer, and use it wirelessly.  I bought a new MacBook Air that uses MacOS 14.1.1 Sonoma.  I downloaded HP Smart to my MacBook.  My network and MacBook show connectivity between the HP4500 printer and the MacBook.  In the HP Smart app on my MacBook I can print the 4 diagnostic printer reports on the HP4500.  But, I can not print any documents that are on the MacBook.  Print Center gives me this message "Software for the printer is missing.  Contact the manufacturer for latest software".     What else can I do to be able to use the printer with my new MacBook?

I found the solution to this problem on an Apple chat board.  I tried it, and it worked.

The soft ware on the HP 4500 is old and the MacBook OS14  is not able to recognize it as a valid working printer.   On the MacBook, go to settings, and printers.  Add another HP 4500 printer, and include the IP Address in its location.  Then designate this new printer as the default printer.  It works.

I am leaving this message in the hope that someone else with the same problem can use this solution.
