HP Deskjet 3700
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Connected and set up printer using HP smart via USB. Downloaded "driver s/w" as instructed. Can print HP guides via pressing I (information key on printer ).  Windows shows printer connected and indicates when I have sent doc to printer... then will not print and times out.

I have tried all the HP virtual chat paths provided but that really does not get at real issue and thus does not solve the problem.  How do I solve this problem?

Hi @DivotDon,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to print from a computer.

Try the below suggestions-

  1.
  2. Make sure the cable is directly connected between the computer and the printer.
  3. The use of a USB hub is not recommended.
  4. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac. Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.
  5. Uninstall HP Smart and reinstall it from the windows store

If the issue persists, Set up a USB printer connected with a built-in driver (Windows)

When you connect the printer USB cable, Windows automatically installs and adds your printer to provide basic printing functionality.

  1. Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

  2. Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.

    • If a 'Found new hardware message displays, follow any prompts to install the driver, and then send a print job to confirm the connection.

    • If the printer connection or print job fails, continue with these steps.

  3. Search for and open Printers & scanners.

  4. Click Add a printer or scanner.

    • If your printer is in the list, select it, click Add device, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.

    • If you printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

  5. Click The printer that I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

  6. Click Next, select Use an existing port, select (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB) from the drop-down menu, and then click Next.

  7. If prompted, click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to finish updating.

  8. Under Manufacturer, select HP or Hewlett Packard, and then select the name of your printer.

Selecting HP under Manufacturer, and then selecting your printer name

  9. Click Next, and then follow the prompts to install the driver.

  10. Disconnect then reconnect the USB cable to complete the printer setup.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
