Hi @SOCCERCOACH1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the issue—when your HP DeskJet 2720e won’t print from a desktop folder and prompts for a sign-in that fails, it’s likely tied to HP Smart app restrictions, Windows account permissions, or HP+ cloud printing setup

Let’s walk through a structured fix to get you printing again:

Step-by-Step Fix for “Sign-In Required” When Printing

1. Check HP Smart App Status

  • Open the HP Smart app on your PC.
  • Make sure you're signed in with your HP account.
  • If sign-in fails:
    • Try resetting your password at HP Account Recovery
    • Use a browser to sign in first, then reopen the app

2. Verify Printer Setup Completion

  • In HP Smart, confirm the printer shows as “Ready” or “Connected”
  • If it shows “Setup Incomplete” or “Needs Attention,” remove and re-add the printer using the printer code (found on the info sheet or inside the app)

3. Print Directly from File Explorer

  • Right-click the file in your desktop folder → choose Print
  • If prompted to sign in, this may be due to HP+ cloud printing
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners
    • Select your HP DeskJet 2720e → Manage > Printing Preferences
    • Ensure local printing is enabled and HP+ features aren’t blocking access

4. Update Drivers and Firmware

  • Visit the official support page:
HP DeskJet 2720e Drivers & Firmware
  • Download and install:
    • Latest full feature driver
    • Firmware update
  • Restart your PC and printer after installation

You’ve already done the right thing by recognizing the sign-in loop—let’s make sure your printer responds reliably and without interruptions.
