Hello All.
I have a Lenovo desktop running Windows 8.1. I purchased a HP Envy 5530 about a year ago. It worked great up until a week ago when the scanning/copying function stopped working due to a hardware failure. I purchased another HP Envy 5530 printer in hopes of simply plugging it into my computer and not missing a beat, boy was I wrong. Plugging it in via USB resulting in Windows trying to install the new device, which just hung. Then I decided to uninstall and start fresh so I uninstalled the program from the "Programs & Features", removed the printer from the "Devices & Printers", and removed the drivers from the "Print Server Properties". I then go and try to install the basic driver for the HP Envy 5530, it makes it to the part where it says connect, and I do so via USB. The computer recognizes the connection with the audio tone and the HP installation software also recognizes it as the circle starts spinning again, but after 20 seconds or so errors out and asks to retry. Now I also hear the USB audio disconnect/reconnect a couple times while the circle is spinning. I've messed with this for 4-5 hours now, trying different ideas, wireless, wireless direct, different USB ports and such. Thoughts?

Hi,
Are you able to get your computer connected to the network (wirelessly)?
This example will show you how it's done:
Connecting a printer using Wireless Setup Wizard
Once you have done that, can you get the IP address and then key in the IP address into a web browser for the Embedded Web Server to use the Webscan.
This relevant example will show you how to enable webscan:
Let us know if it works.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?

The following resource will help you to find the correct software to reinstall after uninstalling:

Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.

Thanks for the tips greenturtle. Unfortunatly it didn't help. The Microsoft program didn't recognize that the software had to be uninstalled, granted I unistalled it in the three places already that I mentioned in my first post. Running the full feature software install yielded the same result also.
I did plug in the printer to the USB to see how long the Windows built in device setup would take as I initially mentioned it just hung. It took about 1/2 hour for it to finish and the HP Envy 5530 did show up in the "Devices & Printers" but it had the yellow exclamation next to it indicating drivers weren't installed, tryed to fix it by right clicking to no avail. Something odd, when I got to the "Install the printer driver" while trying to add the printer through the "Add Printer" in "Devices & Printers", note that my printer is not listed when searching for available printers). It says the driver is not digitally signed.
Edit: I did click windows update in the driver section and let that run for awhile while it searched for updated printer drivers, it came back with all the printer drivers now being signed, but there was no driver for the envy 5530. I restarted the computer and then all the printer drivers were not signed again. If I select the driver from the CD disk inside the Add Printer dialog, it finds the driver, says it is signed, I go to install and an error comes up saying "Printer driver was not installed. Unable to find a core driver package that is required by the printer driver package.

I got my hands on a HP 3050 printer, downloaded the drivers for it, and attempted to install it. I was unable to install that printer also, with the same issue during the install process as the Envy 5530 printer I originally started this post about. I don't have any printers besides HP so I can't test if it's an HP thing or an issue with my computer, but I'm suspecting an issue with my computer.
FYI, I can now print to my Envy 5530, but I believe that's due to Windows drivers as I can't scan to my computer, unless there's another driver for that.

HI,
Can you try this alternative scan solution:
HP Scan Extended
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"
Let us know if that works.

Hello, thanks for the idea, but it did not work. It says "The HP Imagine Device was not found".
Something else I discovered. I can USB connect and install the Envy 5530 printer to another computer in our network and then install it on my computer, across the network, with no problem.
I found the post below, thought's on following those instructions? I have other HP printers on our network that I can't afford to lose the ability to print to so wasn't sure what the "scrubber" all removed.
Below is what my device manager looks like if it helps at all.

HI
Can you install directly as opposed to across the network?
That could be the reason why the software is not able to detect the scanner.
Thanks.

No I can't install directly on my computer, that is the problem.
I currently have the Envy 5530 USB connected to my computer, I can print to it now, but since I was never able to install it using HP's driver download software, I don't have the full functions I once had. When I'm in this state my device manager looks like the picture in the post above.
This is the same with the HP 3050 I tried installing yesterday for troubleshooting purposes.

The webscan did work! We don't have a wireless network here but I set the printer up using its wireless direct feature, logged into the IP address and was able to get it to work. It's a decent work around that I think I'll have to settle with givin I don't often need to scan/combine many pages at once. Thanks!
If you come up with any other ideas as to why I can't install HP printers directly to my computer to have the full feature benefits, please let me know.
