Officejet Pro 7740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased the Officejet Pro 7740.  It shipped with 2 CDs, an installation software disk and a Readiris Pro 14 disk.

This computer doesn't have an optical drive so I downloaded the software from the HP Support site.  The drivers, etc. installed without a hitch...as did the Readiris software.  Printer is installed successfully with no problem.

Unfortunately when I go to use the Readiris program, it tells me that it must be activated and that it will activate automatically once I install the HP software - which is already installed.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both pieces of software but the problem persists.

Suggestions?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.

Can you Uninstall everything and the reinstall in this sequence :

1. HP FULL feature software

2. Readiris Pro

Thanks.

I tried what you suggested but still no success.  Get the same message that I need to install my HP software.  I don't see that I'll use the Readiris software functionality but it's a bit irritating that software shipped with the printer can't be made to work.

Hi @BPeterson0662

Pretty strange that you can't uset he ReadIRS Pro if you have installed the FULL feature software first then the ReadIRIS Pro.

We tried that on our system (Officejet Pro 7740) and it was working.

Thanks.

I've picked up an optical drive...will try uninstalling once more and scrubbing registry etc. then reinstall again from the Disks

Success after using the outboard DVD drive and supplied disks.  Thanks for your input.

I have same problem. I first installed the HP Printer Software from 123.hp.com/oj7740, then I installed Readiris Pro 14, shipped with the printer, and it asked for an Activation Code on the CD (there is no activation code on the CD). Then I removed HP Printer Software en tried to launch Readiris Pro 14 again, I got the message: "To activate this product you need to install HP Printer Software first" (or something like that). I removed everything I installed after I purchaced my printer, restarted my PC, installed first HP Printer Software from the CD, then Readiris Pro 14, and I'm still asked to enter the Activation Code.

Please, help!

Did you figure out the solution?  I am in the same situation.

If this question is for me, no I couldn't. Тhe media (DVD or CD) "rests" now somewhere in my basement inside my printer-box forever. For security reasons (I think) people started to make things you're not able to use. Completely unuseful thing, unfortunately. It has become so difficult (or maybe even impossible) that the only remaining option is to pray to make it work.
