Can't install HP Deskjet 6988 printer on Windows 10 64-bit

I have a HP Deskjet 6988 printer that I am running on a new installation of Windows 10 64-bit, since I built myself a new computer. I do not have the HP installation disk, and any time I try to find the printer driver on the internet, it directs me back to the HP web site to download the drivers. The web site says to "Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system." Unfortunately, Windows does not show any HP printers in the list so I can't install the printer with the correct drivers. My printer has been working flawlessly and I still have several ink cartridges. I do not want to purchase another printer and waste all of the money that I have invested in the printer cartridges. I am an IT Technician and I have tried all of the tricks that I know to install my printer. All I need is a copy of the HP Deskjet 6988 printer driver so that I can install it on my computer. Please help me find a copy of this driver.

Because this is an old printer model you may try to install with an alternative driver like the next one:

>> Deskjet basic printer driver - Windows

And then connect with a USB cable the printer and running "Add printer" in Windows settings.

Unfortunately that did not work. All I get now is multiple pages of garbage and wasted paper.
