Can't print a PDF file

When I go to  print a PDF file the printer prints symbols and not the txt.  The document prints with squares instead of letters or numbers.  I can print a word document without issues.  I've tried several different PDF files and they all do the same.  I've uninstalled the printer and reinstalled.  I've done all the updates for both the printer and windows.

Did you print the PDF files with Adobe Reader?
If yes, then make the following setting:
