Hey

So I just bought my printer but I can't figure out how to work it properly.

If I open a document and press "print" I can't choose a color option - only black/white is available. I tried changing my settings on my Mac etc.

I can print color if I do it through the HP app. So I select a document and put it in the app (a bit annoying not just being able to print directly). BUT I can't choose single pages as I cannot scroll down (see picture). It worked one time but now I can't scroll down anymore. I uninstalled. I closed it down several times. I don't need to print all of my pages, just a few.

So on the picture you can see what I am able to see. I know there are options below this point (you can see the top of the next option). But I can't scroll down. I tried to use full screen, move it around. But it doesn't work.

Hi @ElleE1987

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the situation—and I’m truly sorry the color printing and scrolling issues are making things difficult. I appreciate the steps you’ve already taken to reinstall the HP App and adjust your Mac settings.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to restore full color printing and page selection.

Step-by-step recovery for color printing and HP App scrolling issue on macOS

1. Enable color printing from macOS directly

  • Open your document and click File > Print
  • In the print dialog, click Show Details (if available)
  • Look for a dropdown labeled Color Options, Media & Quality, or Print Settings
  • Select Color instead of Black & White
  • If the option is missing:
    • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners
    • Select your printer > Click Options & Supplies > Driver
    • Ensure the correct driver is selected (not AirPrint)
    • If needed, remove and re-add the printer using the HP driver

2. Reinstall the HP App with full permissions

  • Uninstall the HP App completely
  • Restart your Mac
  • Download the latest version from HP App for macOS
  • During installation, grant Full Disk Access and Accessibility permissions:
    • Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access
    • Add the HP App
    • Repeat for Accessibility

3. Fix scrolling issue in the HP App

  • Open the HP App and go to Print > Document Preview
  • If scrolling is blocked:
    • Try using two-finger swipe on the trackpad
    • Resize the window manually instead of full screen
    • If still stuck, press Tab repeatedly to cycle through hidden options
    • You can also try printing from Preview or Photos instead of the HP App

4. Print selected pages from Preview (alternative method)

  • Open your document in Preview
  • Click File > Print
  • In the dialog, choose From: Page X to Page Y
  • Ensure Color is selected under Media & Quality
  • Print directly without using the HP App

Let me know how the printer responds after these steps. If color options still don’t appear or scrolling remains blocked, we can explore alternate drivers or deeper macOS print queue resets.

You’ve done everything right by staying persistent—I’ll be here to guide you further.
