When went away on vacation on Jun7, 2018 my printers (Hp Deskjet 4655 and Lasejet 1018) were both working from my desktop computer (Window 10 64 bit). When I returned on Jun 18th I was not able to print to either printer. the error message from Notepad was "A StartDocPrinter call was not issued"
1. I tried the Cacls.exe solution outlined in other places in this forum - Did not work
2. unplugged and uninstalled both printers
3. Reinstalled HP 4655 ok then got same error message from Notepad. I can scan from computer but not print. I can print from my phone and tablet.
4. Ran hp print and scan doctor for windows and it recommended that I uninstall and reinstall which I did. Still no luck printing from computer.
I am fairly good with computers but need help with this problem.
Thanks!!!

Thank you Greenturtle for the solution. I am happy to report I am printing from the computer. The only step that I would change is "Step 2" . I went through this step a couple of times uninstalling and removing all HP printer references.
Thanks again!

Greenturtle, these are the steps I did:
Step 2.
At this point I had to do the next steps before the printui command.
• From the Start menu or the Start screen:
• Open Devices and Printers.
• Select any printer and then click "Print server properties" at the top of the window.
• Click on the Drivers tab. delete the HP drivers
•
Open the Print Server Properties dialog window by doing one of the following:
• Click the Start menu and in the search field type 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click it in the search list.
• Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, type in 'printui /s /t2' (without the quotes), and then press Enter or click OK. remove or delete all HP references
Just installed my other HP laserjet printer today also - luckly I still had the installation CD. Everything seems to be working okay. Thanks again for the assistance.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing. Will update the document/steps with your "fingerprint". 🙂
Remember, if there's no CD (for your LaserJet printer), HP.com still have the drivers.
Have a nice day!

RE: Deskjet 1100 Series
I followed these steps but I still cannot print anything in Win10 but PDF files. For MS Word or Corel Draw, the document never shows up in the print queue and files never print ***until*** I convert to PDF.
Notepad returns a "The parameter is incorrect" statement.
Wordpad does the same as MS Word and Corel Draw (doesn't print and no errors).
HP Print and Scan Doctor v5.2 does not report any errors and it prints a test page. Microsoft diagnostics indicates that the printer may not work with USB3.0 but I know that it is connected to a USB2.0 port.
One last interesting point. I can print from another computer running Win10 (connected to the same LAN) after sharing the printer which is connected by USB to this computer ... the computer that I can't print from.

I just spent the better part of a day trying to resolve this issue and was fortunate enough to stumble across this article. I'm not sure the last time I printed anything, but maybe tax season, so around end of March to mid April. I can't say for certain that I've printed anything since the last big Windows 10 update was released, but when I tried today I could print nothing from my desktop, which is a Dell XPS8700.
My printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8620 btw.
I installed/uninstalled the printer drivers numerous times, ran through all of the HP diagnostics & troubleshooting etc.. I tried via wireless, ethernet & USB all with no luck. All the while my laptop, which is also a Dell running Windows 10 & patched to the same level as my desktop, would print fine via a wireless connection.
I should probably also mention that I received no error messages. The files would show up in the print queue etc. and disappear as if they had printed, but the printer remained completely idle.
It was super frustrating.
I would agree that perhaps in spots the instructions could have been a bit more clear/detailed, but I was able to get through them and it resolved my problem.
Thank you very much.
