Can’t set up HP Laserjet M234dwe printer - a repeated problem. Whatever I do on HP Smart desktop or iPhone app, I get a “printer not found”. I’ve added printer details & PIN & re-entered the wireless router password, but all to no avail. There is sometimes a request to enter IP address - via the control panel, but the M234dwe doesn’t have a panel that matches the ones in the so-called help articles. I have only got this over-complicated waste of money of a printer to work once ever, so any help appreciated.

Hi @Jowls174

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like you're having a frustrating time setting up your HP LaserJet M234dwe printer. Let’s work through some steps to resolve this issue and get your printer connected:

Step 1: Reset the Printer's Network Settings

  1. Wake up the printer by pressing the Cancel button.
  2. Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously for about 5 seconds.
  3. The wireless light should start blinking, indicating that the network settings have been reset.

Step 2: Reconnect the Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Open the HP Smart App on your desktop or iPhone.
  2. Tap the + icon to add a new printer.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
  4. When prompted, press the Information button on the printer to confirm the connection.

Step 3: Assign a Static IP Address (Optional)

  1. Print a Network Configuration Page by pressing and holding the Information button until all lights on the control panel blink.
  2. Locate the printer's IP address on the printed page.
  3. Open a web browser and enter the IP address to access the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  4. Navigate to Network Settings and assign a static IP address to the printer.
  5. Save the changes and restart the printer.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  1. Visit the HP Printer Firmware page.
  2. Download and install the latest firmware update for the HP LaserJet M234dwe.
  3. Restart the printer after the update.

Step 5: Check Router Settings

  1. Ensure your router is set to 2.4 GHz, as some printers do not support 5 GHz networks.
  2. Disable any MAC address filtering or firewall settings that might block the printer.

Step 6: Test with Another Device

  1. Try connecting the printer to a different computer or mobile device to rule out issues with your current device.
  2. If it works on another device, the problem might be with your computer’s settings.

I hope these steps help you get your printer up and running. Let me know how it goes or if you need further assistance! 😊
