I haven't been able to scan for a while but today it kept balking at printing an all-text doc. A brief error code flashed , 79? then it reset each time. Checked HP updates and saw alert to update Firmware. Downloaded latest firmware but it won't install. Gives message:

“HP Firmware Updater.app” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

So then I installed HP Smart from App Store hoping it would recognize the firmware but no luck. What next? The HP site offers too many rabbit holes to try to track this all down.

This is an Apple issue not a printer issue. Link above should solve your problem.
