I have been trying to install an HP 1606DN printer on a computer and it will not install. I get the error message "Printer Installation Failed. A New Printer Was Not Installed" and there is no error code associated with it. I have uninstalled and re-installed the program, ran Windows update, and restarted the computer, but nothing has worked.
P.S. (1) I tried to install this originally on a Lenovo ThinkCentre with Windows 10. It would not install on that computer but it did install on a Dell Optiplex with Windows 11. So is there something missing on Lenovo that Dell has? I ran a Lenovo System Update and it said no updates available.
P.S. (2) The same issue is taking place with an HP 1102W printer.
P.S. (3) When I tried to install the printer on the Lenovo, a notification pop-up came up saying "Run HP Smart from CD/DVD." There was no CD or DVD; I was connecting the printer through USB.

Hi @AWilson-TT,
Welcome to the HP Support Community
I understand you are facing an issue with your HP LaserJet Pro P1606DN Printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.
Let's perform a power drain:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
Update the printer firmware
- Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
- Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
If the issue persists, then I recommend you delete the driver and root level and retry, follow the steps below:
1) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2) Select your HP Printer
3) Select Uninstall
4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe”
😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10) Select Ok
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12) Close Devices and Printers.
Use this link to download and install the new driver. Configure the printer and try printing.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This did not work. I deleted the following folders:
C;\LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution
C:\Program Files\HP
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP
I uninstalled HPSSupply (no other HP programs were available). I ran the PRINTUI /S program and there were no HP drivers available. I ran the full software package (using Run As Administrator) and when I connected the printer to the computer using USB, I heard the connection chime, then a disconnect chime, then a connection chime, and then I received the error message "A new printer was not installed."
