Envy 5540
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop motherboard failed so I bought a reconditioned Dell Laptop as a replacement.  Everything has gone well except when I tried to install my wireless HP Envy 5540 Printer.  I have tried every week since Christmas by downloading the full package, downloading the basic driver they both install and connect the at the activation step I get the message that the connection is lost.  Well it is not lost at this end.  I did not have this trouble with my previous laptop.

Is there a way to bypass your internet connection so that I can activate my printer?

@dadlamassu, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are trying to activate the printer and print from your computer.

Let us try these steps:

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the printer

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Use the HP Smart app to print and scan from your Win 10 PC

Click here to download and know more about the app.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
