Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:
Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Follow steps from the link: Click here
Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP DeskJet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
To reinstall, click here.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Did you make any changes to your printer?
While you respond to that, let's try going to the Shared folder, right-click it and select Properties.
Open the Sharing tab and click the Share button, ensure both the user and everyone have Read & Write control and press OK.
Press on Advanced Sharing and ensure it is set as shared within there too, then click on Permissions and ensure that both the User and Everyone have full control. Confirm the changes and return to the shared folder Properties.
Open the Security tab and ensure that both your user and Everyone have write control within that tab as well, then close the dialog by pressing OK.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

No I didn’t make any changes to the printer, I have always had to scan to my PC which doesn’t allow me to select the destination, it always go to my documents file.
Here is what I found. When I look at the share stuff it looks like there is full control access but all is grey. From the share tab it says I cannot display or is unavailable.
I am not a real techy but it looks like there are some restrictions on the share/permissions, or is this fine?
Appreciate your response.

To set up Scan to Network Folder from Embedded web server (EWS)

2. On the Home tab, click Network Folder Setup in the Setup box.
3. Click New, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
- NOTE: You can customize the scan settings for each destination folder. 4. After you have entered the required information about the network folder, click Save and Test to make sure the link to the network folder is working correctly. The entry is added to the Network Folder list.

Once again thanks for your help. I have tried setting the network folder using the EWS and get to a point where the screen on the printer says user name or password is incorrect when I try to scan to network folder. I use the whoami user name , even when it is set up as the current user in the EWS configuration i have the same error. The file sever is connected via Ethernet to my network while my PC and printer are connected wireless to the network.
The network folder properties says the attributes are read only but the security is full control.
The network folder is a synology NAS File server
Note I can scan successfully to my PC using EWS but not to a network file

Thanks for the help. When I ran Scan Doc it allowed me tp specify the network drive and hence I can scan to the drive. I have also removed all the drivers and HP printers that were still on my system.
Once again Thanks
