HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I am helping a client that just got an HP 9730e printer.  When trying to connect the printer to “any” W11 computer, it doesn’t accept the PIN code.

W11 ‘sees’ the printer, and when I add the printer, a new box pops asking for a PIN code.  When I enter the 8-digit PIN that is on the label on the computer, W11 returns a “That didn’t work” message.

I tried contacting HP support to chat, open a case, or call them, but have been unable (from multiple computers, multiple browsers, even an iPad) to request these forms of help, but (after providing all of the information they ask) the ‘Submit’ button doesn’t do anything.  If HP can’t support, then I will suggest to him (and other clients) that they avoid getting HP printers.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

@Coder0504, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding PIN Code Issue with HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To address the PIN code issue when trying to connect your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e printer to a Windows 11 computer, you can follow these troubleshooting steps:

Ensure Wireless Connection:

  • Confirm that the printer is connected to your wireless network properly.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure that the printer firmware is up-to-date. To update the firmware:
    1. Make sure the printer is on and connected to the computer through your local network or USB cable.
    2. Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads.
    3. Type your printer model number (HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e) and select the operating system version (Windows 11).
    4. Click "Firmware" and download the latest firmware version.

Reset Network Settings:

  • On the printer control panel, reset the network settings to defaults and reconnect the printer to your wireless network.
  • Check for any documentation related to the printer setup for Microsoft Windows 11.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
  • Use the app to manage your printer setup, as it may bypass the need for a PIN code.

Double-check the PIN Code:

  • Make sure you are entering the correct PIN code found on the label of the printer.
  • Ensure that there are no typos and the CAPS LOCK key is not inadvertently on while typing.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
