Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all, I'm trying to install a laserjet 1320 on Windows 10 64 bit and can't get it to work. I tried to install the driver both through the control panel, and by downloading the driver from the HP site, named "HP LaserJet USB (DOT4) communication driver for Windows 8 and Higher (64-bit)." When I select the file, "dot4x64.msi", a window flashes and disappears abruptly and doesn't allow you to read what's happening. I wasn't prompted by the typical installation window which usually appears when installing any driver or software.

After I tried both ways to install the driver, the printer did appear under the list of printers in control panel>devices and printers, but the status is "driver unavailable".

I've spent far too much time trying to get this printer to work. It's very frustrating. Please help.

I finally found the solution after many excrutiating hours of trial and error. If anyone has problems installing the drivers for this printer on windows 10, the solution is to download the windows XP driver from the HP site. Make sure you've completely uninstalled all previous drivers. None of the "updated" drivers are working. Unzip the downloaded file.

You then go to control panel>devices>add printer> click on 'my printer isnt listed'> manual set up (the last option at the bottom)> select the usb port under port (if there are no usb ports available, the update in the next step should fix it)> click on "have disk">find the driver you downloaded and select the hpc1320t.inf file in the folder. This should install the correct driver.

To update the driver to work with Windows 10, go to device manager. Find the printer under usb devices, go into the properties, find the driver properties, and select update. Your printer should now be working.

I tried this solution and it worked for me too.  I was trying to connect the laserjet 1320 to my PC running Windows 10 with latest updates and tried everything with no success. Using the Windows XP drivers worked a treat.

many thanks

Thanks. This seemed to almost get there. I got both the pcl5 and pcl6 XP drivers, and installed then through Add A Printer. Selected the .inf drivers and it all seemed to work. It completed and said finished. I went to print something from Notepad and I was happy to see the Laserjet 1320 in the list of printers, and I slected that. I selcted it and tried to prin. Nothing! Printer didn't  do anything. No printing. No flashing lights.  Just nothing. Have you any ideas what/where to try next? I'm going to delete/remove everything related to the HP 1320 and try the whole process again.  I have no idea what else to try.

Uninstall everything and start from the beginning. Use the pcl5 driver. Don't skip the part where you update the driver to work with your version of windows through the device manager.

That's wher ethe hangup was. If I try to update the drivers through device mananager the reposnse is that I already have the best driver, and we know that doesn't work. I finally went through the whole process again, afer cleaning it all out, then downloaded and installed the latest driver (for Windows 8 and 10) from the HP site - Dot4x86.msi 2015 version, instead of going through device manager This worked. The problem I think I was having with the original method was that devices and printer in control panel was showing the printer as working properly and attempts to update the drivers there failed.

But it is now working thanks to your tip on using the XP drivers.
