Cannot install Smart App on Older iPhone or iPad
03-01-2021 09:50 AM

Tried installing an envy 6230 printer at a customer's site. They only have older iPhone and iPad, no desktop or laptop. I can print ok, but, need to install smart app on mobile devices to allow scanning. On downloading App for store, i get that it requires ios13, but, the customer's older devices do not support this. HP's online documentation states that ios12 is ok. Anything I can do?

This documentation appears to be out of date.
Reference: HP Printers - Using the HP Smart App (Android, Apple iOS)
The other reference is the actual Apple web store - it indicates that the application for both phone and iPad are supported on iOS 13.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/hp-smart/id469284907#?platform=iphone
Since the application won't install on iOS 12, the apps web store is the better reference.
I will report the discrepancy in the documentation to the moderators.

Hi,
Indeed, iOS 13 is the minimum version required for HP Smart.
A workaround I may suggest for scanning from the iOS device is to use the Webscan option within the EWS page of the printer.
You may follow the Scan with Webscan (Chromebooks) section below:

Hope that may help,
