Hello, I just upgraded my computer from Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.
At the time of the upgrade I did not have my HP Deskjet D1430 plugged in; I didn't think a printer would be a major problem. However, after upgrading to Windows 7, I tried to use my printer - the driver attempts to install but fails.
I did research and found the complete installation package for my environment. It is called, DJ_SF_NonNet_Full_Win_WW_130_140
When this failed to work I found a fix file called, dot4patch_reboot
I even found a troubleshooting doctor program at the same download location.
I have tried all of these programs, but, no matter what, everytime Windows attempts to install the driver for my printer it fails.
Now I don't have a printer anymore.
Is there a push fix that updates the registry or an individual printer driver file that I can download to fix this problem?
I asked for an individual file because I have gone through the full package install about a half dozen times only for it to fail each time.
Is there anything out there that can help install the correct driver and get my D1430 recognized on my system?
Thank you.
Lou

Good day. Thank you for reaching out to the community again. I have reviewed the case and it will be a privilege to share this space with you. Great efforts and a superb description of the issue. Kudos to you for that.
- Did you try a root level uninstallation and reinstallation of the printer drivers?
For now, try these steps:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-deskjet-d1400-printer-series/2510609/m... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix it for you.
If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
This should work for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Hello David,
I tried everything that you suggested; in fact, after the last failure, the setup finally completed and realized that the install was not successful and downloaded a troubleshooting file. I followed every step in the file, including doing a selective startup, yet, the driver just won't install.
I even tried to stop and start the print spooler service.
I have installed and uninstalled this suite so many times that it corrupted my computer.
I spent about 16 hours yesterday getting my machine back to normal.
I had to perform a System Restore and I had to install Revo Uninstaller to delete the remaining
components of the install because I couldn't do anything without triggering an msi push, which
would fail consistently because the temp files that it used during the install were missing.
I am going to click the, Accept As Solution button, because I am done with this - I am so exhausted
from this process.
It would be one thing if I had individual printer driver files that I could just copy to the proper location but
I can't install the entire suite of programs again - it takes too much to get everything back to normal.
