Recently upgraded to a HP 8130e printer for my MacBook, Sequoia 15.4.1, my wifi light shows on my printer but it is not being recognized by my MacBook. It works sporadically. Router is a couple of months old. I  have Easy Start but nothing works.

@ArteAl, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e printer isn’t consistently recognized by your MacBook. Let’s walk through some steps to get your printer working reliably over Wi-Fi.

Check Wi-Fi Connection on Printer

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.
  • Ensure it shows Connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • You can also print a Network Configuration Page to verify the connection.

Restart Devices

  • Power off your printer, MacBook, and Wi-Fi router.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then power them back on in this order: router → printer → MacBook.

Update Printer Firmware

Use HP Smart App for Setup

  • Download or update the HP Smart app for macOS. HP Smart
  • Open the app and click Add Printer.
  • If your printer doesn’t appear, click Set Up a New Printer and follow the on-screen instructions.

Remove and Re-add Printer (System Preferences)

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Remove the HP 8130e if it’s listed.
  • Click the + button to re-add it. Choose the printer that shows Bonjour or AirPrint.

Check for macOS Updates

  • Go to System Settings > General > Software Update and install any available updates.

Assign a Static IP (Optional but Recommended)

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network > Advanced Settings > IP Settings.
  • Set a Manual IP (outside your router’s DHCP range).
  • Then, on your Mac, re-add the printer using this IP address.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
