yes, checked out forum and solution given does not work either.  using the HP Print and Scan Doctor link http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e016-1&h_keyword=dg-PDU

computer said it was already running so not working to correct the problem.  Computer says printer working normally no problem printing other print jobs, just cannot print Word document, wirelessly or hardwired.  Is there a solution?  Thank you.

  1. Understand you have run the "Doctor" - Other solutions tried?
  2. Operating System you are using?  Windows 10?  Mac?
  3. Version of Office Word you are using?  Office 2016 Home and Office?

HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printer series - E709

If you have not done so, please complete the following:

  • Restart everything, including the router, printer, computers...
  • Remove, download, save, and reinstall the printer software (After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.)
  • Follow the troubleshooting steps for the printer: Printer is Offline (Windows)

If no joy and the issue is ONLY apparent when you (attempt to) print Word documents, then it MIGHT be a problem with your Office Word installation.

Examples include and are not limited to:

  • The version of Word is incompatible with system / printer software
  • There might be a corrupt libraryfile , bad normal.dot file
  • The document(s) might contain illegal / unavailable fonts used in the document

Thank you for your response although shutting everything down starting all up again has been tried as well as uninstalling and reinstalling printer.  What seems to happen is it works for a while then goes offline for some reason.  sorry left out important info.  Using Windows 10 and Word 2016.  Also this seeemed to happen after most recent win 10 upgrade if that helps.  Did find info saying to stop and start Print Spooler which does work although slow to respond but eventually prints.  Very cumbersome!  I hope this is helpful.  Thank you for your help.

Yes, Updates can indeed cause issues directly, indirectly, or an Update might uncover a weakness.

You may have to dig at the problem a bit -- sometimes the easy stuff works and sometimes it turns into rocket science.  Rats.

Have you completed the suggested troubleshooting?

The Offline message may be indicating a more general issue with the printer staying connected -- the solutions in the document should address these problems (if they are the underlying cause of the problem).   In particular, double check the port connection, the firmware, and consider adding a static IP address for the printer(described in the document as a "manual connection").

If you are printing your Word documents from a Cloud storage (rather than printing a copy of the document that is resident on your computer), the issue may be more noticeable if the connection is not stable between the printer, the computer, and the network.

If you initially set up your printer with USB, then converted to online, some apps (like MS Word)  may show your printer twice. The USB-affiliated one will show "offline" if the cable isn't hooked up.
