I am using  an OfficeJet Pro 6978 printer on a Dell Windows 11 computer.  I am using Chrome for my browser.

Regardless of the print Ap I use when printing a particular logged-in web page and specifying Landscape orientation, the resulting print is always Portrait.

I notice if I attempt to print the login page for this site using Chrome-print, Chrome offers the layout choice, Portrait or Landscape, but after logging in that option is not offered.

Can a website override user print preferences even when using Chrome-print?

Hi @Larry1895,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding print orientation issues!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Chrome Settings:

  • Check if Chrome has any cached settings or extensions that might override the print commands.
  • Ensure that you have the latest version of Chrome; updating can often resolve such issues.

Printer Driver and Settings:

  • Make sure the printer driver is up to date. You can check for updates or download the latest driver from the HP Support page.
  • Access the printer settings either via Chrome or the Control Panel. Ensure that landscape orientation is selected under "Print Preferences" or "Printer Properties."

Print Preview and Settings:

  • When using Chrome's print preview, look for the "More Settings" link. Here, you can manually set the orientation to landscape. Verify that the correct option is applied before printing.
  • Occasionally, specific web page options can override browser settings. Try using Chrome’s built-in “Save as PDF” feature as a test to see if this retains the landscape orientation.

Web Page Specific Restrictions:

  • Some web applications can have restrictions that limit the available print options. If possible, try printing different sections of the web page or screenshots and see if landscape can be applied.
  • Use a different web browser (such as Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox) to check if the issue persists.

Windows Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer settings from the Windows Control Panel. Go to Devices and Printers > Properties > Preferences to set the orientation to Landscape directly from the system settings.

Clear Cache and Reinstall Driver:

  • Clear Chrome's cache and cookies to prevent cached settings from affecting print jobs.
  • If none of the above works, uninstall and reinstall your printer driver.

I hope this helps.
