Brand new smart tank 7605 printer. Cannot set up as printer not listed. Every reset the printer just says "Busy. please wait..." For hours on end. I have followed all the setting up instructions, making my device visible, location settings and Bluetooth etc but it just does nothing. Any help with this seemingly basic step would be very very appreciated.

Hi @D-wob_31,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're having trouble setting up your new HP Smart Tank 7605 due to the printer not appearing during setup and being stuck on "Busy. Please wait..." Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset of the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and wall outlet, and turn the printer back on.

2. Check for Paper or Cartridge Issues

  • Ensure that there are no paper jams or issues with the ink tanks.
  • Verify that the ink tanks are properly seated and the tank lid is closed.

3. Reset the Wireless Settings

  • To reset the wireless settings, press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button simultaneously for 5 seconds.
  • This will restore the wireless network settings to factory defaults, allowing you to restart the connection process.

4. Use HP Smart App for Setup

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your device.
  • Open the HP Smart app and select "Set up a new printer."
  • Ensure your device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to connect to.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

5. Check Device Connectivity Settings

  • Ensure that both Bluetooth and Location Services are enabled on your device for proper printer detection.
  • Make sure that the Wi-Fi network you are using is a 2.4GHz network, as many printers don't work well with 5GHz networks.

6. Factory Reset the Printer

If the printer is still stuck on "Busy. Please wait...", a factory reset may help:

  • Turn off the printer, and while holding down the Cancel button, press the Power button until the printer starts up.
  • This may trigger a factory reset. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset process.

7. Connect via USB as a Temporary Workaround

  • If wireless setup continues to fail, try connecting the printer to your computer using a USB cable.
  • You can then use the HP Smart app or HP Easy Start to complete the setup, after which you can configure the printer for wireless use.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, please let me know. There may be additional steps to take, like checking firmware updates or performing a manual Wi-Fi setup via the control panel.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
