Hi @Bbilandz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding setting up your HP LaserJet MFP M28-M31 on macOS!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check for macOS Update:

  • Ensure your macOS is up to date, as system updates can sometimes include support for a wider range of printers.

Use Generic Drivers or Built-in Functions:

  • macOS often includes generic PostScript or PCL drivers that can work with HP LaserJet printers.
  • Go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners" and try to add the printer. If it is detected, you might have the option to use a generic driver.

Apple AirPrint:

  • Many newer HP printers support AirPrint, which requires no additional drivers for printing from macOS.
  • Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your Mac and is online. AirPrint can sometimes facilitate USB printing as well if the printer supports it.

HP Smart App:

  • Download the HP Smart App from the Mac App Store if available. It can offer setup guidance and alternative print management services.

Third-Party Solutions:

  • Consider third-party utilities like Gutenprint or other printing software that might support your model and macOS versions. They often provide extensive printer support beyond what the manufacturer directly offers.

Check Connection:

  • Double-check the physical connection between your printer and the Mac Mini. Ensure the USB cable is functioning and securely connected to both devices.

Older macOS or PC Setup:

  • If none of the above methods work, you may need to use a machine with an older macOS version or Windows for printing purposes.

I hope this helps.
