HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer

I just acquired an OfficeJet 8715 (second hand of course) and tried to enrol in Instant Ink. I got some way through the setup and connected it to the internet, updated firmware and tried to enrol in Instant Ink.

I reset web services and got an email address, first part before the @ is needed to enrol in the Instant Ink services. It came up with a "server error" and wouldn't accept the unique code it had just generated.

 

Next bit of advice was a reset so I did the maximum reset available from the Support menu (fml).

It already has instant ink cartridges and now gets stuck on the screen "Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in Instant Ink". If I pull the cartridges out it just tries to show me how to install cartridges. If I can't get past that enrol error screen I can't sign up to Instant Ink or do anything more to set the printer up.

 

How do I unstick this infernal error loop?
