HP laser jet MFP M428fdw will not print from automatic feeder. Shows resize error: Resize Option cannot be used only when copying from scanner glass. Job cancelled.  I have not chosen a resize option.  I have tried selecting "none" for the resize option and it won't hold this option.

Troubleshooting Resize Error on HP LaserJet MFP M428fdw

The HP LaserJet MFP M428fdw showing a resize error when trying to print from the automatic feeder can be due to several reasons. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Clear Reset Settings:

    • Power off the printer.
    • Turn it back on and reset the printer to its factory default settings. This can help if there is a glitch with the current settings. Note: Resetting will erase any customized settings.
  2. Review Paper Size and Type:

    • Ensure that the paper size and type set on the printer matches the paper loaded in the feeder.
    • Navigate to the printer's menu on the control panel and confirm the paper settings under "Paper Handling" or "Paper Settings."
  3. Check the Document Placement:

    • Ensure that the documents are correctly placed in the automatic document feeder. Misalignment can sometimes cause errors.
    • Ensure there are no obstructions or paper jams in the feeder path.
  4. Update Printer Firmware:

    • Visit HP’s official website and check for any firmware updates available for your printer model. Updating to the latest firmware can resolve many operational issues.
  5. Adjust Resize Settings:

    • Go into the printer settings via the control panel and locate the resize options under the copy settings.
    • Ensure “Resize to Fit” or any similar setting is set to “None” and save the settings.
  6. Test with Different Documents:

    • Try printing or copying different types of documents to determine if the issue is with a specific document or the feeder itself.
