We would like to know if the card readers we are currently using with the SafeCom printing solution can be configured to read NFC cards in our HP printers. Below I explain the situation: We acquire SafeCom ID device licenses for our HP printers, and we purchased the card readers (HP USB Universal Card Reader - X3D03A). Additionally, we purchase the cards (SafeCom Mifare Cards - SFM0988030) that are distributed to users. In the internal configuration of the HP printers, using the SafeCom Device Utility we must enter the parameters: 7F01 0 so that these card readers can work with those cards that we bought, but the reader does not recognize any other type of cards. So, our question is, if there is any similar configuration code for the card readers to work with NFC cards? Please find attached a photo of the card reader and our care pack certificate. If this is not the channel to get the support that we need, please send me the contact information.

In your scenario with SafeCom printing solutions and HP printers, you're already using the SafeCom Mifare Cards, which technically are a type of NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. Your existing readers, the HP USB Universal Card Reader - X3D03A, should inherently be able to read these NFC-based Mifare cards if they are properly configured. If you are looking to use different NFC cards beyond the SafeCom-branded Mifare cards, it's crucial to first check if the card reader supports the specific NFC technology used in those new cards.
The specific configuration parameter you mentioned (7F01 0) is for enabling the reader to work with the SafeCom Mifare cards. For other types of NFC cards, like those based on other standards (e.g., other ISO/IEC 14443 types), the configuration might differ, depending on the card technology:
Check the Reader's Compatibility: Ensure that the HP USB Universal Card Reader is compatible with other types of NFC cards you wish to use. This typically depends on the RFID frequencies and protocols supported by the reader. Most NFC cards operate at 13.56 MHz, but compatibility with specific protocols (e.g., Mifare, DESFire, FeliCa) might vary.
Consult Documentation and Support:
- SafeCom Device Utility Manual: This manual might contain information or additional configuration parameters that could be used to configure the readers to work with other types of NFC cards.
Testing Different Cards: If possible, acquiring a sample of the new type of NFC cards and testing them with your current setup might provide a quick answer to compatibility issues.
Firmware or Software Updates: Check if there are any firmware or software updates available for your card readers from HP that might extend compatibility with other NFC card types.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
