I am attempting to set up my printer. I’m getting an error message that the blue cartridge is not communicating. I tried a new blue cartridge and it says to use the startup cartridge. Since it’s clearly not functioning properly, what am I supposed to do?

Meanwhile, you can try these general trouble shooting steps:

1. Ensure You Are Using the Setup Cartridge

  • If this is the first time setting up the printer, you must use the original setup cartridges that came with the printer.
  • These cartridges have "Setup" or a special label on them.
  • If you no longer have them, you might need to contact HP Support for a replacement.

2. Remove and Reinstall the Cartridge

  • Open the printer’s front cover and remove the blue cartridge.
  • Check for any protective plastic tabs or stickers that may still be attached.
  • Gently wipe the metal contacts on the cartridge with a dry lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert it firmly and ensure it clicks into place.

3. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Reconnect the power and turn it back on.
  • Try installing the cartridge again.

4. Update Firmware (If Possible)

  • If your printer allows access to settings, check for a firmware update in the HP app or the printer’s menu.

5. Try Another Setup Cartridge

  • If you have another setup blue cartridge, try using it instead.

Let me know if you need more help! 💙
