I have the HP Smart app and I set the admin password for my OfficeJet Pro 8740.  The password i have saved doesn't appear to be the right one  for some reason.  How do I go about changing the admin password on this Printer?

thanks,

Hi @TarheelWords

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the password issue.

Let's try these steps to restore the network settings to defaults -

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).
2. Touch Network Setup.
3. Touch Restore Network Settings.
A message appears stating that the network defaults will be restored.
4. Touch Yes.

If the issue still persists, I have sent you a private message with the steps to reset the printer. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks Asmita.  So, let me get this straight, restoring the network settings will reset the administrative password that I use to logon to the printer via the HP Smart App?

thanks,

Hi @TarheelWords

It should but if it does not, I have also sent you the steps to perform a semi-full reset in the private message.

Let me know how that goes.

Thanks!

Hi. I followed the steps to restore network settings, but no matter what I do, I keep getting the message "this feature has been locked by the person who set up the printer." I set up the printer, but I can't find any documentation on a password. Please help!
