I recently acquired this new printer and printed a few things already. I have printed over wi-fi but I need to be able to print over USB. Upon testing to print via USB I have to choose a different printer with the ending PCL-3 and the error "Your printer has experienced as unexpected configuration problem. 0x80040003". I go to HP Smart, click on Printer Settings, and almost all the options become unavailable. How do I fix this?

Hi @Jororo
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the USB printing issue.
Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor, it is a Windows tool to fix printer issues.
Try re-installing the printer driver -
1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2. Look for HP Printer software.
3. Right-click to uninstall.
4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.
5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10. Select Ok.
11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.
13. Restart the computer.
14. Download and install the software and drivers from here for Windows 10 (64-bit).
15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

One problem has been solved in that now I can print and change settings through USB. On HP Smart, I still cannot view the printer's status nor view the Advance Settings over USB. What do I need?

Thank you for posting back,
For better clarity, I need a few more information:
- What happens when you click on the HP Smart App? Could you please share a picture of the HP Smart App home page?
Keep me posted for further assistance.

A new problem has occurred in where the printer is on and connected to the computer via USB but HP Smart shows the printer as offline.
I click on Printer Status, click "Diagnose & Fix", and shows that no issues were found. I clicked on "Test Print" and it succeeded to print. So there is confirmation that there is a connection between the printer and the computer. I want to think this is a software problem. What is needed to fix this?

@Jororo
Thank for posting back.
HP smart app only works with wifi connection and it does not work with USB setup.
Please download the full feature printer driver for Advance print settings.
