HP Officejet Pro 8630 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Changed network provider, from cable to optical. Printer recognizes the new network, but will not connect to it. The Wireless Network Test report suggests that MAC address filtering could be the problem, but MAC address filtering is off.

Hi @Rudd208

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It seems like your HP Officejet Pro 8630 is having trouble connecting to the new optical network despite recognizing it. Since the Wireless Network Test report mentions MAC address filtering but confirms it's off, here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Verify Network Compatibility

  1. Ensure your printer is connected to the 2.4 GHz band of your Wi-Fi network, as many printers do not support the 5 GHz band.
  2. Check your router settings to confirm that both bands are enabled and broadcasting.

Step 2: Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Settings.
  2. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

Step 3: Assign a Static IP Address

  1. Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open a web browser and enter the printer’s IP address (found in the Wireless Network Test report).
  2. Navigate to Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration.
  3. Assign a static IP address to the printer to avoid connectivity issues.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
  2. Install the firmware update and restart the printer.

Step 5: Check Router Settings

  1. Log in to your router’s settings via its IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1).
  2. Ensure MAC address filtering is indeed disabled.
  3. Verify that the printer’s MAC address is not accidentally blocked. You can find the MAC address on the Network Configuration Page printed from the printer.

Step 6: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for 2–3 minutes.
  3. Plug it back in and turn it on to reset the system.
