Changed to fiber optic internet. The SSID is the same and the password is different. I'm using the screen on the printer to connect. When it was a DSL connection, it was slower speed but no problems. I have tried setting up the connection several times with no luck. I even moved the printer 12 ft closer to the connection.

Hi @JerryC58,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you have changed to fiber optic internet, despite the SSID being the same, which has caused a connectivity issue with your HP Envy 4500. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

1. Reset Network Settings on Printer

  • On your HP Envy 4500 printer, go to the Settings menu.
  • Find the Wireless or Network Settings option.
  • Select Restore Network Defaults. This will erase the previous connection settings, allowing you to reconnect from scratch.

2. Reconfigure Wi-Fi on Printer

  • After resetting, use the Wireless Setup Wizard to reconnect to your Wi-Fi:
    • Navigate to the Network Settings on the printer screen.
    • Select Wireless Setup Wizard.
    • Choose your network SSID and enter the new Wi-Fi password. Make sure you are entering the correct password, as this is a common issue.

3. Router Settings

  • Check the Router's Band: Ensure that your router is broadcasting in the 2.4 GHz band as the HP Envy 4500 does not support 5 GHz networks.
  • Update Encryption Protocol: If your router uses WPA3, switch to WPA2 encryption for compatibility with older devices like your printer.
  • Restart the Router: Turn off the router for 10-15 seconds and then turn it back on to reset its connection processes.

4. Check IP Address Conflicts

  • If possible, log into your router settings and ensure there’s no IP address conflict. Sometimes new routers assign a different IP pool that may conflict with the printer's previously saved settings.
  • Ensure the printer is assigned an IP in the same range as your other devices.

5. Move Printer Closer Temporarily

  • Although you’ve already moved the printer closer, try bringing it within a few feet of the router temporarily while attempting to reconnect.

6. Check Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure that your HP Envy 4500 has the latest firmware installed. If the printer has outdated firmware, it may cause compatibility issues with new networks. You can update the firmware using the HP website and a USB connection if necessary.

7. Reconnect Printer to Your Computer (Linux)

  • Once the printer is connected to Wi-Fi, add the printer on your Linux system again:
    • Open Settings > Printers on your Linux system.
    • Click Add Printer and look for the HP Envy 4500.
    • Select the printer and complete the setup.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
