Hi @SLBen1
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer keeps selecting the wrong paper type by default. Let's get your HP OfficeJet 8720 to stick with plain paper as the default setting.
Here’s how you can set plain paper as the default paper type:
Option 1: Set the Default Paper Type in Printer Settings
- Open the Control Panel on your computer.
- For Windows: Go to Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Printers and Scanners in newer versions of Windows).
- Find Your Printer:
- Right-click on your HP OfficeJet 8720 and select Printer Properties (or Printing Preferences).
- Select the Paper Type:
- In the Printer Properties or Printing Preferences window, look for a Paper/Quality tab or section.
- There should be an option called Paper Type or Media Type. From here, choose Plain Paper.
- Set as Default:
- After selecting Plain Paper, make sure to click Apply or OK to save your changes.
- You can also set this as the default printing setting for all future prints if the option is available in your preferences window.
Option 2: Set Plain Paper as Default in the Print Dialog (for Specific Jobs)
If you want to set plain paper only for certain print jobs (not globally for all prints), you can change the paper type through the print dialog:
When you're ready to print, click File > Print in the application you're using (like Word or a browser).
In the Print dialog box, select your HP OfficeJet 8720 printer, then click on Printer Properties or Preferences (depending on your system).
Go to the Paper/Quality tab.
- Here, select Plain Paper as your paper type.
- Click OK to apply and then proceed with printing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
