I've seen numerous issues asked regarding the Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M277dw expired certificate when using a Mac, and all posts have been locked, so I can't post in those how I was able to resolve mine - and it was SO SIMPLE. I'm actually pretty aggravated that I've spent so long trying to figure this out via support, access my printer's EWS, searching for an updated CA certificate, etc.

On all those posts, the solutions provided have always been some lengthy response that requires an IT degree or a forward to an unhelpful blog.

I'm operating macOS Sequoia. I resolved my issue by accessing the HP interface directly onto the printer itself. Here's what I did and I hope it works for you.

From the printer interface on the printer:

Go to Setup Menu

Select Service

Select Restore Defaults

The printer reverted to factory settings, and when it started back up, I reconnected to my WiFi. I had previously deleted my printer and added it again (might be a good idea to do that as well prior to restoring to default, but I have no idea if that played a role). Made sure all previous print jobs were canceled. When I printed a test document from my Mac, it worked and has continued to work without issue for a few days so far.

I hope this helps someone out there.

Cheers.

Hi @ryanpetry

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for sharing your experience so clearly. I can understand the frustration of spending time searching through complex instructions when the resolution turned out to be straightforward.

It’s great that you took the initiative to reset the printer and reconnect it, and I appreciate the detail you’ve provided—it will certainly help others facing the same certificate error on macOS.

For anyone encountering the expired certificate issue on the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw, the steps you outlined are effective:

Your solution is simple, practical, and avoids unnecessary complexity. It’s encouraging to see that after a reset and reconnection, printing worked smoothly again.
